End of September

Hello everyone, I have just returned from an afternoon classical music concert with the Marylebone Club and thought now is a great time to update you on my first week of classes. I am feeling great about my courses; my undergraduate degree has prepared me very well to pursue this MSc. A lot of the introductory material is very similar to what I have studied over the past four years so this is helping ease the transition into graduate school. I'm sure it will get more difficult soon so I am enjoying this while it lasts! I have met some great friends who I have been exploring London with. We have checked out several markets and parks trying to take in as much sun as possible before the winter sets in.

As I mentioned above, today I spent the afternoon with my host club here. John and Barbara Bash hosted a concert for their club and guests in benefit of the David Nott Foundation, an organization that trains surgeons who work in conflict zones. They have raised enough money to cover the training of one surgeon's education. A family of musicians played a mix of classic and more contemporary pieces (including a favorite song of mine, Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles). It was a great opportunity to meet more members of the club, connecting with past presidents and recently inducted members.

Photos from my first days of classes. I am so relieved to now know where all of my classrooms are and to feel more settled on campus.

Above are photos from our adventures around London. The first is in front of Buckingham Palace, the middle is from my walk to the Victoria Market this morning, and the last is from Primrose Hill at sunset. All great days!!

This photo is also from the Victoria Street Market, these fishermen sold the best salmon I have ever had! I found lots of other yummy treats including, fresh bread, pastel de natas, olives, and pesto.

Lastly, here is a video from today's concert. I was so amazed by their talent and wish I could play an instrument!
